Vegan Carrot Hot Dogs

Vegan Carrot Hot Dogs

It's summer time, that means Barbecue Season. How is your summer going? Here in England we had some extremely hot days, which meant perfect BBQ nights, but being vegan or vegetarian is not always easy
What is a Carrot dog, is that a joke. I promise you it's not. I know these days you can find so many supermarket brands for "meatless", "vegan", any meat alternatives, but they are full of refined ingredients that are not so good for our boddies And if you are like me and simply don't like the taste of meat and all these substitudes come so close to that meaty taste, here is my solution.
I decided to share with you an amazing alternative to hot dogs, and that is these simple but delicious Carrot dogs. Sounds weird, you won't feel sceptical once you have a bite. I even have converted people to carrot dogs as there is so much flavour in them.
What is the most fun part in eating carrot dogs? It's the toppings of course, it's the sharing the same BBQ experience as your friends, enjoy them grilled on a hot summer night, serve them in a nice hot bun.
Hot dog are just a staple in the summer, and if you are missing them, you should try these carrot dogs instead.
Although these carrot dogs take hours (or for best results: overnight) to marinade, the recipe does't require much time, and it's definitely worth it.
I definitely haven't created that recipe, i have been inspired from Pinterest posts about vegan options.
INGREDIENTS:
- Carrots: It's not a carrot dog without carrots, right. Choose the size depending on your bun lenghts. We are going to peel and trim them to size.
- Soy sauce: We are going to need soy sauce for that salty flavour.
- Worcestershire sauce: It has vinegar to tenderize, sugar for sweetness and shine.
- Olive oil: Oil in marinades serve two purposes. It keeps the food from sticking to the grill or pan for that matter. And since it's oil, it will carry fat soluble flavors, not to mention the flavor of olive oil itself.
- Garlic powder, Paprika, Cumin: Use any spices of your choice and experiment with different flavours.
METHOD(Overnight):
- Peel and trim the carrots to the desired bun lenght. Boil them on medium heat until fork tender. Nobody likes mushy carrots. Drain them and set aside.
- Start mixing your marinade ingredients (garlic powder, paprika, cumin, worcestershire sause, soy sauce, olive oil..)
- Add the carrots to the marinade, they have to be fully covered, if not turn them over every few hours. Place them in a container and cover them, keep them in the fridge overnight.
- When ready to cook, take them out and keep the marinade if you would like to spruce other veggies up (adding a couple of tablespoons to your veggies makes them taste even better). Grill them on the BBQ until they reach your desired taste. If you are not grilling them you can cook them on a griddle or in a skillet (over medium-high heat) for 5 to 10 minutes each side or until golden brown. Or enjoy them as they are.
- Place theh carrots in a bun an add your favourite toppings.
