Easy Lasagne: Step by Step

Boryana
Who doesn't love a good lasagna, right? It's an amazing way to feed a crowd and a perfect dish to feed a big family. It freezes well. It reheats well. Leftovers will keep you happy for days.
Perfect for students, busy mums and dads or days when you just don't have time.
This recipe is so simple and quick, perfect for when you don't have time to spend in the kitchen.
Usually i'm not the biggest fan of ready made sauces, but everybody needs a break and a delicious meal ready in no time, ad to be honest my kids never noticed a difference when i used the ready made sauces, they still enjoyed and demolished their portions, even asked for seconds.
So i didn't even use some big bran name sauces, i got Aldi's own brand. Everything was ready in no time and it actually tasted really good.
However, I couldn't help myself and I added some gherkins, as that is what we like in this house.
Just fry the onions and brown the beef mince together, when that's nicely cooked just add the tomato sauce. Stir well and add the diced gherkins to the pan, let everything simmer for a couple of minutes.
From the it's just an assembly job. A cup of meat sauce, a layer of sheets, more sauce, followed by a layer of sheets. Repeat until you have used up all the ingredients and finish with a layer of sheets.
Bake in a preheated oven 180C/350F or Gas 4 for about 30-40 minutes.
Grate the cheddar cheese and put it on top of the lasagne. Bake until bubbly and golden.
Allow the lasagna to cool at least 15 minutes before serving. Leftovers will keep for about 5 days. May be reheated in conventional oven or microwave.
Simple as that you have a lovely, hearty meal in no time.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Oven dish 7"/10"
  • Deep frying pan

Ingredients

  • 500 g lasagne sheets ready made
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 30 g onion diced
  • 3 gherkins diced
  • 500 g white lasagne sauce ready made
  • 500 g tomato lasagne sauce ready made
  • 200 g cheddar cheese
  • 250 g ground beef

Instructions

  • Let's start by heating 3 tbsp of vegetable oil in a deep pan on medium high heat.
  • When the oil is hot we add the onions plus a pinch of salt.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until it is lightly browned on all sides.
  • Then pour the tomato sauce into the pan and stir.
  • Dice the gherkins and add them to the pan, let them simmer for a couple of minutes.
  • To the bottom of your oven dish pour a laddle of white and tomato/mince sauce, then spread it.
  • From there, it's just an assembly job. A cup of meat sauce, a layer of sheets, more sauce, followed by a layer of sheets. Repeat until you have used up all the ingredients and finish with a layer of sheets.
  • Pour the remaining white sauce on top and spread it.
  • Put the oven dish into a preheated oven 180 degrees C for 30-40 minutes. Check if ready with a wooden skewer.
  • Grate the cheddar cheese and put it on top of the lasagne.
  • Bake until bubbly and golden.
  • Cool and serve. Allow the lasagna to cool at least 15 minutes before serving. Leftovers will keep for about 5 days. May be reheated in conventional oven or microwave.

Notes

Important Tip: Let the lasagna sit/rest for at least 15 minutes once removed from the oven (even 30-45 minutes is fine). This will keep it from becoming runny and help it to keep its shape when cut. Resting is not required when reheating.

To freeze an unbaked lasagna: Line the pan with foil before assembling, then assemble the lasagna as directly. Let cool completely, and then freeze until solid. Once frozen, lift the frozen lasagna block from the oven dish, wrap it in more foil, then freeze for up to a month. To reheat an unbaked frozen lasagna: Remove the lasagna from the freezer and unwrap all the layers of foil. Transfer to the original ovendish, cover, and let it thaw in the fridge overnight. Once thawed, bake as directed. To freeze baked lasagna: Line the pan with foil before assembling, then assemble and bake as directed. Let it cool completely, then freeze until solid.
